A Child Cried Out

And No One Was There

A child cried out, and no one was there,

A child cried out, alone in despair,

A child cried out; the pain was too hard,

A child cried out, alone in the yard.

A child cried out, just wanting to die,

A child cried out, a tear in his eye,

A child cried out, battered and scarred,

A child cried out, alone in the yard.

A child cried out, pleading for love,

A child cried out for help from above,

A child cried out, running so hard,

A child cried out, alone in the yard.

A child cried out, crouching alone,

A child cried out, dialing the phone,

A child cried out, at the top of his voice,

A child cried out for his hero of choice.

A child cried out, but no one was there,

A child cried out, deep in despair,

A child cried out, nowhere to go,

A child cried out, screaming no, no, no.

A child cried out, taking all the blame,

A child cried out; its always the same,

A child cried out, but now he's a man,

A man cried out, . . . off a roof he ran.

I initially wrote this poem twenty years ago and added the last few verses recently. Sadly little has changed regarding child abuse, sexual or otherwise. We see children's deaths much too frequently on TV news, which is just the tip of the cruel iceberg known as child abuse. Please share my poem as much as possible to bring others' attention to this evil pandemic. Thank you kindly.
