Mormonism is a Cult
What Are The Warning Signs?
What warning signs indicate that Mormonism, or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, is, in fact, a religious cult? Are they obvious or subtle?
As a faithful member, you consider being faithful and loyal paramount. Do you think God's prophet here on earth would lead you astray? Why would he or any of the church leaders lie to you? The very thought never enters your head. And if it does, Satan must be responsible for those evil thoughts, right?
As a member, you'll hear, “God loves you, and Jesus loves you.” As well as, “The Prophet loves you and only has your best interests at heart.” And to show God, Jesus, and the Prophet you love them, you are required to be obedient. Very obedient. You are not even allowed to discuss or ask questions, as doing so suggests you are weak, not loyal, and a sinner. If you have questions or concerns, it illustrates a problem within you, not with the church. At least that's the enveloping doctrine you see, hear, and feel.
Warning Signs:
1 — The Prophet and church leaders are ALWAYS right
2 — Any criticism, questioning, or doubting of the Prophet or church leader is considered persecution against the church. Suddenly the abuser becomes the victim. Therefore, no discussion groups are allowed outside of the church building.
3 — Anything the Prophet or church leader does is justified, no matter how harmful it may be. For example, insisting you pay money to them before you pay your bills and buy food, even if you have insufficient for your needs.
4 — The Prophet or church leader is the only source of truth. Everyone else is lying and being led astray by Satan.
5 — Church members must be devoted to the Prophet and their leaders and NEVER question them. Why? Because they receive revelation from God just for you! Lucky you and convenient for them.
George Carlin, the comedian, and deep thinker, expressed these concerns well.
“Religion has convinced people that there’s an invisible man . . . living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of the day. And the invisible man has a list of ten specific things He doesn’t want you to do. And if you do any of these things, He will send you to a special place, of burning and fire and smoke and torture and anguish for you to live forever, and suffer and burn and scream until the end of time. But He loves you. He loves you, and He needs your money.”
