The Mormon Church Is A Cult

It Checks Off Every Box On Any Cult Requirement List

No matter what the PR department of the Mormon church tells you, or even the good and decent members of the church, the Mormon church is a cult. I had a message from a reader this week who determined that because I did not think as he did, I did not know what I was talking about. As I pointed out, it's often easier to see the wrongs of institutions from the outside because, on the inside, you are taught all others don't have the truth that you, as a member, do. The following Medium articles will illustrate what the outsiders can see easily and what the insiders can't see, don't want to see, or ignore. Check out the box above, and you will see what I mean.

Freedom of Mind Resource Center, Inc (grammar and readability changed for ease of reading by myself) stated in June 2022:

Many think of MIND CONTROL as an ambiguous, mystical process that cannot be defined in concrete terms. In reality, mind control refers to specific methods and techniques, such as . . . thought-stopping, that influence how a person thinks, feels, and acts.

When undue influence is initially imposed on the minds of unsuspecting recruits by extremist cults or pseudo-religious groups, it often starts with "love bombing" and a promise of life in an idealistic fantasy world where they might "never have to die" and could "live forever," achieve some elite status in a better society to come, etc. Once recruits have bought into all the initial promises and hype, they are incrementally introduced to a systematic control method, one small step at a time. This methodical system of control — undue influence — disrupts the person's authentic identity and reconstructs a new identity in the image of the group or leader. In the process, an individual's ability to think rationally and act independently is undermined, enslaving even the brightest, most educated, and most functional people. But exactly how does it work?

Undue influence occurs when the overall effect of the methods to control behavior, information, thoughts, and emotions promotes dependency and obedience to some cause, leader, or group. For example, members of pseudo-religious groups and cults subjected to undue influence can live in their own homes, have 9-to-5 jobs, be married with children, and still be unable to think for themselves and act independently.

I will use the BITE model of Authoritarian Control devised by Steven Hassan, Ph.D., for the following four articles on Medium to illustrate why the Mormon Church, or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, is a cult. Steven Hassan, Ph.D., is an expert on undue influence, brainwashing, and unethical hypnosis and the author of the best-selling book, Combating Cult Mind Control. And when I use the term cult, I don't mean pleasant, furry, lovable; I mean the do not be scammed type of cult.
